The new garden
After more than 450 years of life, the Botanical Garden needed a deep renewal in order to combine together tradition and openness to the future. Therefore the University of Padova advertised an international planning competition with an ambitious aim: on one hand, the safeguard and valorization of the existing site; on the other hand, the employment of a new 15.000 square metres area, which was acquired a few years before, on the south side of the current Garden. The winning project by Vs Assocciati practice accommodates historical continuity, teaching and researching aims, innovative architectural, environmental and urban values.
